Facilitator Guide for Learning Resource Implementation

Intended Audience

This learning module is designed for:

• Registered Nurses (RNs)
• Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
• Health Care Aides (HCAs)
• Nursing Students
• Home Health Care Professionals
• Clinical Supervisors and Care Coordinators
• New employees during orientation
• Existing staff requiring IPAC refresher education

• Home health care organizations
• Community nursing programs
• Staff orientation programs

• Quality improvement initiatives
• Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) education programs

Learners will require:

✔ Computer, tablet, or smartphone

✔ Internet access

✔ Speakers or headphones (if audio content is used)

✔ Reflection worksheet (optional)

✔ Access to organizational wound care policies and procedures

Facilitators may also provide:

✔ PPE examples

Facilitator Preparation

Prior to delivering the module, facilitators should:

• Review all learning materials and activities
• Ensure access to the online learning platform
• Familiarize themselves with current IPAC guidelines
• Prepare discussion questions and debrief prompts
• Review organizational wound care policies
• Ensure learners understand course expectations

How Learning Activities Are Facilitated

Activity 1: Pre-Learning Self-Assessment

Purpose:
Assess baseline knowledge and confidence regarding infection prevention and control practices.

Facilitator Role:

• Encourage honest responses
• Explain that results are used for self-reflection and learning
• Reinforce that the activity is not graded

Activity 2: Environmental Risk Identification

Purpose:
Increase awareness of common infection risks in home care settings.

Facilitator Role:

• Encourage learners to share real-life experiences
• Facilitate discussion regarding challenges encountered in practice
• Connect learner experiences to evidence-based IPAC principles

Activity 3: Home Care Reality Check

Purpose:
Promote critical thinking and application of infection prevention principles.

Facilitator Role:

• Guide discussion about environmental challenges
• Encourage problem-solving strategies
• Reinforce risk assessment and clinical judgment

Activity 4–5: Scenario-Based Learning and IPAC Challenge

Purpose:
Apply knowledge to realistic home care situations.

Facilitator Role:

• Facilitate discussion after each scenario
• Ask learners to justify clinical decisions
• Encourage evidence-based reasoning
• Provide immediate feedback and clarification

Activity 6: Reflection Activity

Purpose:
Support reflective practice and clinical reasoning.

Facilitator Role:

• Create a respectful learning environment
• Encourage participation from all learners
• Allow multiple ways to participate (written, verbal, group discussion)
• Connect reflections to clinical practice

Activity 7: Final Knowledge Check

Purpose:
Evaluate learner understanding of key concepts.

Facilitator Role:

• Review answers with learners
• Clarify misconceptions
• Reinforce key IPAC messages

Activity 8: Post-Learning Evaluation

Purpose:
Measure learner confidence, satisfaction, and intended practice changes.

Facilitator Role:

• Encourage honest feedback
• Explain how evaluation results support continuous improvement
• Discuss opportunities for future learning
